    QUALITY -> Maturity samples

    Maturity samples can be recorded at various times:

    • Pre-harvest to help determine go dates for harvesting;
    • at time of Submission;
    • during packing (recorded against a Run);
    • while in Storage (recorded against a pallet/bin);
    • for a Library carton
    • or Other reason, eg general lab sampling service.

    General details

    • Type - as described above.

    • Sample date - date the sample was taken.

    • Charge to - select the vendor to invoice if invoicing applies. The visibility of the charge fields are based on the HideMaturityChargeFields setting in the System page.

    • Charges - if charging applies, select the charge schedule.

      For Preharvest type, enter:

      • Orchard - select the orchard the fruit has come from. If the orchard does not exist, you can use the Import RPIN button to import the orchard from Master data.
      • Management area - select the management area the fruit has come from.
      • Variety - select the variety of the fruit.
      • Segregation - the block trend graph is based on Management area and segregation, so this gives you the ability to segregate the management area.
      • Submission profile - this is the submission profile of the fruit. Shows once the record has been saved. If you press the Calculate button, the submission profile will be calculated based on the rules entered in the Maturity standards in SETUP -> Varieties. If a submission profile is calculated and there is no go-date entered for this block, the go-date will be set to the Sample date. If a submission profile is not calculated and there is a go-date but no stop-date, the stop-date will be set to the Sample date.

      For Submission type, enter:

      • Bin submission - enter the bin submission the sample has come from.
      • Submission profile - as above.
      • Storage type - storage type of the sample carton.
      • Room # - room number the carton was stored in.

      • Reference

      For all types:

    • Invoice? - if charges apply, tick when this maturity sample is ready to invoice.

    • Comments - other observations about this sample.

    Maturity go/stop dates (applicable to preharvest and submission types)

    These dates are recorded against each orchard management area and variety. They can be changed manually but will be set when the Submission profile Calculate button is pressed (see above). These dates are also stored in Setup -> Orchard blocks against the variety.

    Fruit tab

    This tab allows you to record various sample values for individual fruit.

    • Fruit were cut? - select yes or no depending on if you needed to cut the fruit.

    If you have a penetrometer attached to your computer, click Sample pressures to connect to the penetrometer and begin recording pressures.

    Note

    Penetrometers require a special program to be installed on your computer. Once this has been done you can maintain the penetrometer details from the main Maturity Sample list page in the Setup drop-down menu Penetrometers.

    If you don't have a penetrometer attached to your computer, you can enter values directly in the table.

    The number of fruit samples defaults to 20. To change this, press the Change # fruit button and enter the number of fruit to sample.

    For each piece, record

    • Blush, Brix, Colour, Pressure 1, Pressure 2, SPI, Diameter (mm), Weight (g), Blotch?
    • Cutting defect - if the piece of fruit has a defect, enter the defect here. This list is a list of Setup -> QC defects where Requires cutting? has been ticked.
    • Cutting note - optional comment.
    Tip

    Changed values are hightlighted in green. Remember to press Save regularly.

    Photos tab

    Allows you to store photos against this sample.

    Actions menu

    • View Maturity sample report - shows details of this individual sample
    • View Block trend graph - shows maturity trend graphs for all pre-harvest and submission samples for this orchard area and variety.
    • Send e-mail - creates an email message with both the above reports attached. The recipient defaults to the email setup in the Setup -> Locations screen in the Communications section. If this is not setup, it will use the E-mail field for the location. If that is not setup, it will look for the last email address used for this orchard.
    Tip

    The Maturity samples screen has an envelope icon. If this is dark, an email has been sent (hover over the envelope to see who it was sent to). You can send the email from here by clicking on the envelope.

    Setup menu

    The Setup menu from the QUALITY -> Maturity samples page gives you the ability to setup:

    • Penetrometers - see Penetrometers
